Downloading macOS High Sierra from the Mac App Store

Now that macOS Mojave has been released, it’s become more difficult to access the macOS High Sierra installer for those who still need it. Fortunately, High Sierra has not been removed from the MAS and it is still available for download. Apple has a KBase article that shows how to access the macOS High Sierra page in the Mac App Store, available via the link below:

To access the macOS High Sierra page directly, please click on the link below:

That link should open the MAS and take you to the macOS High Sierra download page.

In the event that you’re blocked from downloading macOS High Sierra, you should be able to download it in a virtual machine. I have a post on how to do this, available via the link below:

FYI, if you have new hardware shipping with Mojave such as the 2018 MacBook Pros and you need to downgrade them to High Sierra, you must download High Sierra from the actual device while booted into Mojave. This ensures you get the proper build release version for that hardware. If you download using an older Mac it won’t work on the new hardware. After downloading High Sierra on Mojave you will receive an error about the High Sierra Installer app not being compatible when it tries to launch after download but you can ignore this and burn the bootable image to a flash disk. Next you need to enable USB Boot and change the SecureBoot security to allow the High Sierra install flash disk to boot. Then erase/format APFS using the High Sierra Recovery mode booted from the flash disk. Then install High Sierra. Everything works fine with High Sierra on the 2018 MacBook Pros. Remember to re-enable the SecureBoot T2 settings if that is your corporate standard.

Oddly, this did not work on my 10.13.6 17G5019 machine (it downloaded only a 22M file, which VMware silently refused to recognize). It seems to be working from a 10.14 machine, supposedly a 5G download.
