Thanks for the reply. I think I still want to use payload-free packages, but I just wish I had something simple like PFPackage to do the work for me. :) I guess I'll just have to do it the hard way.

I still think payload-free packages are better than sending Unix commands via ARD, but your mileage may vary. The exception is if you're trying to run an actual script, as opposed to individual Unix commands. In a case like that, a payload-free package is usually the better way to go.

PFPackage was an AppleScript Studio application I was given a copy of back in the 10.3.x days by an Apple engineer that was doing some work at my site, but it was with the understanding that it wasn't for general release.

I'm trying to send out a unix command via ARD 3.3 using the task server so I don't have to have the targets online. Have you found a better way to send out Unix commands via ARD or are payload-free packages still the way to go?

I've also noticed that the Welcome.txt in your packages contain the text, "payload-free package created by PFPackage". Is PFPackage an application that helps make the process simpler? If so, can you let me know where to find it?

Thanks,
Gary

Yeah, I just updated myself and did a little xmas shopping over the weekend, so I got acquainted with Safari's Extended Validation indicators. I will say that I've done some IT work, so I'm fairly aware of the differences in SSL certs, but as a consumer, still, the lock and the green url bar, etc, really make a difference -- it makes you feel uneasy when sites don't have it. I think that's the point, though, EV a double pronged approach: strenuously audit the company, and then educate the consumer. Great to see Safari implementing this; EV only makes sense if it's adopted across the board.

Maria,

I set it up this way because it was a fun project during a long weekend and the box that handles the reboot is up all of the time anyway, performing a different job in addition to rebooting my Airport.

And I'm glad you found my iCal scheduling trick helpful! I use it for all kinds of things. Most recently, I set it up to

But here's dumb question: why not simply attach the power cord of the AirPort base station to a light timer with a short delay between power down and power up? Would that mess up the base station's innards? I hope not, because that's how I reset mine when it stops working.
